In 1969, Unionville residents started the Unionville Festival as a way to stop a provincial plan to widen Kennedy Road through Unionville. That move preserved Unionville’s Main Street and made it what it is today.
The Right Size and Mix
Few historic villages can boast the mix of architecture, retail and culture that Unionville features along just a few hundred meters of Main Street. From the century homes south of Central United Church, to the more modern Varley Art Gallery to the north, a stroll along Main Street takes you past the Planing Mill, art galleries, churches, the Unionville Train Station, many pubs and restaurants, coffee shops, the Millennium Bandstand and a community centre.
